Drew32 collaborates with Royce da 5′9″ and Dj J Cash on latest track, Spazz Out

(Detroit, MI) As up and coming rapper, Drew Parks aka Drew32 prepares for another day of class at Oakland University in Michigan, he is also preparing to release his latest single as the next step in furthering his budding music career.  The track, titled Spazz Out, is a culmination of talented artists from multiple generations and cities.  Drew32 produced the beat which features a verse from Detroit legend Royce da 5′9″ and is presented by Dj J Cash out of New York.

Drew on the collaboration with Royce: “After I produced the beat, I could instantly hear Royce on it in my head. Spazz Out is a song basically about going nuts. The tempo of the track and the verses are delivered at a very challenging pace and flow, which I thought was perfect for Royce.”

Drew on Dj J Cash: “I just recently got to know DJ J Cash, and when he heard the record, he instantly told me he wanted to present it to the world. I think he’s a cool and talented dude so we had to make it happen!”

Spazz Out is just a taste as to what fans can expect from Drew’s upcoming mixtape, B.U.R.N., which is scheduled to release in April.  Fan’s can expect another leaked track or two before the rest of the tape is available for download.

About Drew32: Drew32 is a 19 year old rapper out of Detroit, MI that is known for his smooth, lyrical style.  He has performed all over Detroit and at festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival and SXSW.  Spazz Out is the first single from Drew’s up coming mixtape, B.U.R.N. which is scheduled to release in April.

Drew32 is a hot up and coming rapper out of Detroit, Michigan that we met at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. He has been creating a huge buzz around his hometown so we couldn’t wait to hear him live. The 19 year old put on a great performance that was filled with enthusiasm and positive vibes. We had a chance to sit down and chat with Drew to find out a little bit more about his past, present and future as an artist.

In what city were you born?

Royal Oak, Michigan

What type of music did you grow up listening to?

The first music I listened to from way back when I was a kid was World Music and Reggae, stuff my dad listened to in the car. I’m Greek American so I also remember listening to Greek music that my grandparents would listen to.

I first started listening to rap from the movie Space Jam (laughs). The soundtrack has LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Method Man, etc. so this was one of the first bits of hip hop that I was exposed to. Then I went on to Bow Wow and some others; but this was all way back when I was around 10 years old.

When Eminem came out is when I really got into hip hop.

Who are some of your musical inspirations?

Bob Marley, Eminem, Kanye West (because he does both production & rap) Royce59, and of course the classics, Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac. Can’t forget the legends.

At what age did you start writing and performing music of your own?

The 1^st song I did was at 10 years old but I didn’t write it, it was right after September 11th and my dad wrote it. My dad wrote a poem called “Prey for Peace ‘We Need Love’ ”, sort of a remake of an LL Cool J song “I Need Love”, and had me record it in a studio in Michigan. This was the first time I did any music and it happened because my dad heard me rapping in the car and realized I had a real talent.

A couple years later, around 12 or 13, I started making my own beats and music but I’ve been serious about it since I was about 14 years old.

Do you have a girlfriend or are you currently on the market?

I am Single.

What are your plans for your next musical project? What direction will it take?

Right now I am working on my mixtape titled B.U.R.N. (Blow Up Right Now) and it’s going to be crazy. Even though I’ve already done 5 or 6 mixtapes, I feel they have all been introductory because I’m still gaining popularity in the world. This one will be different; I’m crazy spazzing out on the songs. There will still be a little bit of a poppy feel in some songs but you will definitely be able to feel rap. There are a couple features on it, one of them is a Royce 59 song titled “Spazz Out”, who is one of my inspirations.

In your “What’s My Name” Remix, you sound a lot like Drake, is this something you’ve been hearing a lot?

I get a lot of Drake comparisons, which is why I was reluctant to do the song. In the cover I was trying to match the tone so that could be why it comes out more in that song in particular but if you listen to my other songs you will be able to hear a distinct different between the two of us.

Ideally, where do you see yourself in the next 5-10 years, do you have any goals set for yourself?

My all time goal which may not happen in 5 years, is to be making music around the world. I’m not talking about just touring worldwide; I want to be actually collaborating with artists around the world. For example, going to Brazil or Greece and collaborating with local artists.  I am set on doing something in music whether it is as an artist, producer, etc.

Highlights of the concert include a surprise performance from Will I Am of the Black Eyed Peas and Usher dancing and performing (without a safety harnesses) on a small stage cable lifted and elevated in the center of the Staples Center about 50 feet over the crowd.

This concert was one of the best concerts we’ve ever attended and watching it from Hyde Lounge at Staples just made the event last that much longer because we were able to stay after to socialize.
